Lithium reserve
Researchers at the Atomic Minerals Directorate, a unit of India's Atomic Energy Commission have calculated Lithium reserves of 14,100 tonnes in a small patch of land surveyed in the Mandya, 100 km from Bengaluru.

What is Lithium?

Lithium is a infrequent metal, critical for constructing batteries for electric vehicles.

India's scenario comparing with other countries

In recent times, India imports 1.2 billion USD worth Lithium batteries. This has grown significantly. In 2017, India imported 384 million USD worth Lithium batteries. This reserves found is very little amount as compared to the World's leading producers of Lithium. The major producers are Chile ( 8.6 million tonnes) , Australia ( 2.8 million tonnes ) and Argentina (1.8 million tonnes ).

Although India has very small reserves of Lithium and are extended in various places, they can be of important use. But these reserves are not yet mapped. Gol is on the path of implementing 1.4 billion USD plan to make India a constructing hub of electric vehicles.
