Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis renamed on Manohar Parrikar

IDSA renamed on Manohar Parikkar

Government of India has announced to rename the Institute for Defense Studies and Analysis as" Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses".


The move is to honor former Defense Minister and Padma Bhushan awardee Manohar parrikar and to align  the vision and aspiration to the premier Defense Institute.

Manohar parrikar

  • Manohar parrikar was the defense minister from 9th November 2014 to 14th March 2017. He also served as the  chief minister of Goa.
  • He guided the ministry through tough challenges of attack like Pathankot and  Uri and  tackled this with exemplary boldness.
  • He has a significant contribution in OROP demand for  armed forces.


  • IDSA is an autonomous body date functions under the defense ministry. It was established in 1965.
  • It conducts study and research on problems of national security and the impact of Defense measures the economic, security and social life of the country. This committee is chaired by the Defense Minister.
